THE LOCATION

The hotel is surrounded by majestic trees and grassy plains, tucked away off the main road between Lyndhurst and Brockenhurst. Lyndhurst is less than a ten-minute drive and there are plenty of forest walks that start from outside the hotel.

Brockenhurst, with its train service to London, is just a six-minute drive away.

By car: it takes around 25 minutes from Southampton and 2 hours from London. The hotel offers free parking.

By train: Brockenhurst station is a 5-minute drive from the hotel. The journey takes 13 minutes from Southampton and 1 hour 40 minutes from London Waterloo. Book trains to Brockenhurst.

CHARACTER & STYLE

Built as a manor house before transforming into King Charles II's hunting lodge during the post-civil war era when his mistress, Nell Gwynn, resided here, this red-brick building is decidedly majestic, with fireplaces throughout. A contemporary spa is housed in a newer wing.

THE FACILITIES

Service is personal and friendly. There are lots of activities including both indoor and outdoor pools, bikes for hire, croquet and badminton. Maps and wellies are available for venturing into the neighbouring forest. Indoors, guests can enjoy a cinema room and library, while the spa features a thermal suite and an outdoor hot tub.

Spread across the new wing and original manor house, each room is uniquely styled. Some have a contemporary feel while others are furnished with classic mahogany period furniture. Some of the sleek bathrooms have roll-top baths and the bijou attic rooms have sloping ceilings.
