Our month-by-month guide will help you plan your dream trip and we’ve even included our recommendations, so you don’t miss out.

If you find there are too many dream destinations to think of, this travel inspiration post is sure to spark your wanderlust. Whether you're interested in cruises or rail travel, culinary or horticulture experiences, we have a trip just for you - no matter the time of year.

While some destinations were made to visit all year round, the seasons can certainly play a part in knowing when is best to travel. Winter breaks can be divisive - with travellers either opting for winter sun, or to immerse themselves in the snowy climes of somewhere like Switzerland. Once spring rolls around, you can't help but appreciate the bursts of colour in flower fields across Europe - or further afield in South Africa or Japan.

It's easy to fall in love with the summer, when it's brighter and warmer - but the ideal summer holiday looks different to everyone. And as we hold on to those longer nights, autumn rears its head. Suddenly, it seems a good idea to tick off a bucket list experience - perhaps, like seeing the Northern Lights - or simply breathe and appreciate the beauty of nature, as autumn leaves and stunning sunsets awash the landscapes with oranges.

Read on, as we guide you through our favourite destinations each month, and make recommendations for the trips you need to consider.

India or Romania

India

Those seeking warmer climes should head to Asia. We recommend India, as it's dry season, meaning minimal rainfall across the country, and the temperatures are comfortable - warm and sunny, but not too hot, with cooler evenings. With this in mind, it's the ideal time for sightseeing and India certainly has a lot for culture aficionados - especially in cities like Agra, Delhi and Jaipur - known as the Golden Triangle - and Mumbai.

Romania

If you're happy to brave the elements of winter, then Romania should be firmly on your list. Whether you're interested in outdoor pursuits or simply want to admire the snow-capped landscapes, there's no better time to visit - particularly if you're interested in visiting Bran Castle, the inspiration behind Bram Stoker's Dracula. Major cities such as capital, Bucharest, are less busy - perfect if you're looking to explore the sights without large crowds.

Visit: Discover Transylvania and stay in the Hotel of Ice, among the snow-capped peaks of the Fagaras Mountains
France or USA

France

Nothing screams Valentine's more than a trip to Paris - the 'City of Love'. Stroll along the banks of the River Seine, or perhaps take a scenic cruise to see the sights from the water; ascend the Eiffel Tower for panoramic city views; head to Champs Élysées for a spot of shopping; or explore Paris' parks and museums. Paris has plenty of bars and restaurants for a romantic meal for two, whether a family-run bistro or an upmarket eatery.

USA

There are many amazing places to visit in the USA during the month of February, but the state of Louisiana has to be up there - after all, it's Mardi Gras season! The weather may be mild, but the streets are lively and vibrant, with the annual parades and festivities taking place. There's plenty to do, from exploring the French Quarter and charming Garden District, to taking in a jazz club. If music is your thing, there's no better time to travel.

Netherlands or Japan

Netherlands

Experience the start of spring and see the beginning of the tulip blooming with a holiday to the Netherlands in March. Visit the vast Keukenhof gardens - the world's most beautiful spring garden - to see millions of colourful flowers. As well as tulips, expect to see crocuses, hyacinths and daffodils, and even cherry blossom. March is also a good time to visit the larger cities, such as Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague, when it is less busy. Lose yourself down charming streets and of course, look out for the windmills and medieval buildings.

Visit: Explore the cities, tulip fields and historic villages along Holland's waterways on this cruise

Japan

Considered one of the best times to visit Japan, March signals the start of spring and therefore, cherry blossom season. Temperatures are mild, but it's a magical time with picture-perfect scenes - as hues of pink provide the prettiest backdrop to frame majestic mountains and ancient temples. March is also outside of peak season, meaning you can explore popular attractions with fewer crowds. Take advantage of the numerous cultural events and festivals taking place, to fully immerse yourself in vibrant Japanese culture.

Visit: See Japan during cherry blossom season; or traverse the Japanese Alps between Tokyo and Osaka

Wherever you choose to visit in Italy, you can expect moderate temperatures, and aside of Easter (should it fall this month), quieter cities. Spring is a lovely time to head to the Italian Lakes, or journey through the Tuscan countryside. With its carnival festivities over, explore Venice's sights, lido and lagoons; while for foodie experiences, Puglia and the Amalfi Coast are a must. It's worth knowing that 2025 is the holy year of the Jubilee, so Rome could be busier than usual at this time of year. While Easter doesn't impact sightseeing and restaurants, the Vatican Museums will be shut during this time.

Visit: Discover the rich culture and beautiful landscapes of Sicily; or cruise Venice's lagoons and islands

Scilly Isles

Spring in the Scillies is simply spectacular. The Scillonian III operates from March so by April, things are in full swing. It's also a great time of year to spot puffins, and it's one of the only spots in the UK that you can do so. Go island hopping, explore coastal paths and see historical sights - all while taking in the spring sunshine and fresh sea air. April also signifies The Low Tide, when the channel between the islands of Tresco and Bryher are dry enough to cross on foot. Tresco Abbey Gardens are also beautiful at this time of year.
