MORE INFORMATION

THE LOCATION

Alnmouth is arguably Northumberland's most attractive seaside village and it's a five-minute walk to the beach. Ten minutes' away by car you'll find the market town of Alnwick with its castle and gardens.

The hotel is on a one-way street, so is relatively quiet, and easily accessible from the A1. Alnmouth Station is a 20-minute walk away.

By car: around 1 hour from Newcastle, 2 hours from Edinburgh and 6 hours from London. Free on-site parking available.

By train: trains from Edinburgh to Alnmouth take an hour and from London takes 3 hours 30 minutes - after which, it's a 7-minute taxi to the hotel. Book trains to Alnmouth.

CHARACTER & STYLE

Formerly a Victorian villa and farm cottage, the hotel is deceptively big. It has a modern rustic feel with panelled walls, log-burning stoves and banquettes. The décor nicely reflects the coastal setting with shades of sand and blue.

THE FACILITIES

Staff are happy to offer recommendations, particularly for walking and cycling routes, and bikes can be stored in the celler. Packed lunches are available on request. While there's no lounge, the bar and eating areas provide plenty of seating.

Rooms

Rooms continue the rustic theme, with waxed wood furniture and wool-upholstered chairs. Splashes of colour (such as mustard and sea blue) add a vibrancy to the otherwise grey décor. Bathrooms are bright with patterned floor tiles.

Room types: Twin, King, Deluxe King, Studio King

Key amenities: ensuite bathroom with toiletries, bathrobes, tea and coffee-making facilities, TV, free Wi-Fi

Food & Drink

Expect bistro-style with a hefty Northumbrian twist. Dishes might include a prawn and lobster cocktail followed by venison with clapshot (swede, turnip and potatoes). Pace yourself to leave room for wickedly tempting puddings - chocolate delice, sticky toffee, steamed marmalade and ginger, or an ice cream sundae with chocolate brownie.

The Restaurant: cosy bar and dining room. Pub classics, locally sourced produce. All-day dining, open daily. Mains from £18.
