By train: Glasgow Queens Street to Edinburgh Waverley takes around 50 minutes, it's 3 hours from Manchester Piccadilly and 4 hours 45 minutes from London Kings Cross - after which, it's an 8-minute walk to the hotel. Book trains to Edinburgh.

This historic building has a beautiful restored glass dome and Victorian pine panelling in the Commons Club. As soon as it's 5pm, the lights go down and the music pumps up.

Rooms are known as 'Chambers' and are decorated in neutral browns. They look simple and clean, yet expensive. There's a bedroom, bathroom, dressing room and living room. SMEG fridges are fully stocked with impressive snacks and drinks.

Enjoy pre-dinner cocktails in the Commons Club bar, before heading to the restaurant. Or for a hipster breakfast and fun all-day menu, dine at Eve. We loved the East Coast lobster club sandwich in Eve.
