CHARACTER & STYLE
This heritage property has received some serious modern gloss thanks to Swedish architectural firm Wingårdhs. Striking contemporary elements (like concrete) offset period features - it's supremely tasteful and high-end - think acres of marble, parquet floors and soft leather sofas.
THE FACILITIES
Service is friendly. There's a small fitness room in the basement and a marble-clad relaxation room with sauna, plunge pool, showers and hot stone seat. You can hire hotel bikes (although pricier than the norm) and staff can suggest local running routes.

Rooms
There's a minimal feel in the rooms, with black steel four-posters warmed up by moody shades of blue or green on the walls. Abstract rugs sit on the oak parquet floors. Some design decisions are showing their age (soft leather desktops are now rather stained), but overall the look is undeniably cool.

Key amenities: ensuite bathroom with toiletries, bathrobes and slippers, hairdryer, coffee machine, gym and spa access, free Wi-Fi
Food & Drink
Noi is an attractive, airy space filled with light thanks to a glass wall facing the courtyard. The European menu has both regular and seasonally-inspired dishes. Try the dry-aged rib-eye or the red prawns with garlic, chilli and parsley.

Marble Bar: elegant bar, exclusive cocktails and curated spirits. Caviar and champagne available. Open daily, 4pm-12am.
