You're within walking distance of the Old Town's attractions, including the castle, cathedral, the Scotch Whisky Experience and Museum of Scotland. The New Town is about a 10-15-minute walk away.

The hotel is on a quiet street just off the Royal Mile and the station is withing walking distance.

By car: over an hour from Glasgow, 2 hours 30 minutes from Newcastle and 4 hours 30 minutes from Manchester. Paid parking available nearby.

By train: Glasgow Queens Street to Edinburgh Waverley takes around 50 minutes, it's 3 hours from Manchester Piccadilly and 4 hours 45 minutes from London Kings Cross - after which, it's a 6-minute walk to the hotel. Book trains to Edinburgh.

This is a late Victorian building, and features like the high ceiling and tall windows remain, but there aren't too many other original features other than a bit of cornicing and the oak staircase. The building is set on a slope (like most in the Old Town), so the entrance floor is actually on the third floor.

August37 is the on-site café-bar, although it's separately run. It offers a simple continental breakfast, with a selection of cold items served with coffee, tea, and fruit juice. There are plenty of dining options in and around the Royal Mile. If you decide to rustle up supper, the staff will take food deliveries or arrange a free hamper for longer-stay guests.
