THE LOCATION

The apartments are set back from the Royal Mile but still in an ideal central location. The main entrance is opposite St Giles' Cathedral.

You're in the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town, a short stroll from Waverley Station.

By car: over an hour from Glasgow, 2 hours 30 minutes from Newcastle and 4 hours 30 minutes from Manchester. Paid parking available nearby.

By train: Glasgow Queens Street to Edinburgh Waverley takes around 50 minutes, it's 3 hours from Manchester Piccadilly and 4 hours 45 minutes from London Kings Cross - after which, it's a 5-minute walk to the hotel. Book trains to Edinburgh.

The apartments are housed in 17th and 18th-century buildings, but inside, the décor is sleek and more modern - think wooden floors, designer lighting and bold-coloured furniture. There's a relaxed, sophisticated atmosphere.

Although apartments have kitchens with all the appliances you'd need, you can still head to Luckenbooths on the ground floor for its popular all-day menu. Showcasing classic dishes with Scottish flavours, options include whisky-glazed smoked salmon followed by Tweed valley burger. Breakfast is more like brunch with a staggering choice from grilled lobster crumpets and shakshuka to beetroot-glazed smoked salmon as well as a full Scottish.
