Facing a bustling road just east of Bath's centre, The Bird is flanked by a bowling club on one side and Bath Recreation Ground, a spacious area containing the city's rugby's stadium, at the back. Nearby, you'll find Bath's premier art gallery, The Holburne Museum and Bathwick Meadow, part of the National Trust's Bath Skyline walk.

The city centre is around ten minutes away on foot and the train station is about a 15-minute walk.

By car: the hotel is just 40 mins from Bristol, around 2 hours from Southampton or Coventry, and 2 hours 30 mins from London. Paid on-site parking available.

Chef Leon Smith crafts West Country-inspired dishes that are both refined and hearty at Plate, The Bird's relaxed, open-layout restaurant. Alongside two indoor bars, a vibrant outdoor terrace transforms into a beach bar in summer and a cosy winter wonderland with seasonal heated 'dining domes'. The chicken liver parfait - one of the substantial 'West Country tapas' served as starters on the dinner menu - was silky smooth.

Plate: local produce, modern British cuisine, small plates, outdoor dining. Open every day for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. Large plates from £16, three-course set menu £25.
