By train: Bath Spa station is a 15-minute walk or 5-minute taxi ride away, serviced by trains from London Paddington (1 hour 20 mins), Portsmouth Harbour (2 hours 15 mins) and Cardiff Central (1 hour). Book trains to Bath Spa.

Housed in a once-staid Victorian mansion, The Bird has undergone a complete transformation into a visually captivating boutique hotel. Owners Ian and Christa Taylor have adorned the property with an eclectic collection of captivating art and artefacts.

Chef Leon Smith crafts West Country-inspired dishes that are both refined and hearty at Plate, The Bird's relaxed, open-layout restaurant. Alongside two indoor bars, a vibrant outdoor terrace transforms into a beach bar in summer and a cosy winter wonderland with seasonal heated 'dining domes'. The chicken liver parfait - one of the substantial 'West Country tapas' served as starters on the dinner menu - was silky smooth.
