The hotel is in Ballsbridge - just south of Dublin city centre. This tree-lined district is beside Herbert Park (with its with a duck pond, gardens and playing fields) and the River Dodder.

It's 10 minutes by car, taxi or Dart (commuter) rail, or a 30 minute walk, to the city centre. It's also on bus routes to the city and the Aircoach from Dublin Airport.

By plane: Manchester, Birmingham or London to Dublin takes around an hour, after which, it's a 25-minute drive to the hotel. Paid parking available on-site. Book flights to Dublin.

The hotel's style ranges from the clean and corporate (bedrooms and hallways have no design touches or artworks) to the bright and fun (the lounge and lobby have huge windows and lots of colourful floral displays).

Service was good but the facilities less so. We liked the large comfortable bed in the room and the freestanding bath.

Rooms are decorated in dark colours and have a corportate feel, although they are comfortable and the beds are large. Some rooms have a park view. Facilities include coffee machines, bathrobes and flat screen TVs.

Key amenities: ensuite bathroom with toiletries, hairdryer, tea and coffee facilities, bottled water, mini fridge, TV, free Wi-Fi

Dine in the Pavilion Restaurant or Terrace Lounge - the food is expensive though. From the restaurant you have views of the park. For breakfast, we enjoyed fresh fruit and rhubarb yoghurt.

Pavilion Restaurant: formal dining, international cuisine. Dishes include steak, rack of lamb and confit duck. Open daily for dinner.

Terrace Lounge: casual lobby dining and bar. Dishes include salads, pastas and grills. All-day dining, open daily. Mains from €18.50.
